I was washing my dishes this morning and mentioned to a friend how weird it is that the turning of a calendar year can make everything feel so different. And yet nothing has changed. But everything has changed.
There is something powerful about a New Year.
The word ‘new’ means:
Recently into existence
So as day three of our new year comes to a close tonight I was thinking about the how fresh it feels. Even if it is just in my heart and my expectation.
What about your first few days of a new year? What have you done differently? Better? Fresh? Unfamiliar to you?
I did a few things at the beginning of this new year.
I unsubscribed to so many annoying emails I just delete. Today I took the time to actually unsubscribe. I did it on my husbands emails too (ssshhh don’t tell him I unsubscribed to all his real estate emails and all his travel the world emails!!)
I also decided not to plug my phone in next to my bed. It’s now charging in my lounge room. It feels AMAZING to not wake up and be tempted on social media scrolling.
Thirdly I began to READ – daily and at night before I go to sleep. I love it. So much better for my brain and heart than an iPhone!
My thinking feels NEW as well. I am changing minders and declaring new things over my life.
So three days in, what is ‘new’ for you? What page are you turning. What pain do you need to leave behind? Who do you need to forgive? What great opportunity needs to give way to even BETTER?
I pray that this year feels new, fresh, unused, unfamiliar, scary and hopeful all at the same time.
Happy NEW Year.
